South West Podiatry work with a number of major private medical insurance companies including BUPA – Updated 1st of August 2024.
What you need to know:
Prior to attending your appointment, it is your responsibility to inform BUPA and gain pre-authorisation for the procedures codes required to facilitate your booked appointment (See list of procedure codes below). South West Podiatry cannot speak to BUPA on your behalf. If you fail to gain pre-authorisation, you will be liable for any costs occurred at the company’s self-pay fee rate.
Ensure that the podiatrist you are booked with is BUPA registered (See list below) and they are a named person on your policy. If you attend an appointment with a non-BUPA registered podiatrist, you will need to self-fund and claim back.
If BUPA fail to cover your consultation fees, South West Podiatry will send you an invoice via email to be paid within 14 days.
By scheduling an appointment within South West Podiatry, you are agreeing to the company terms and conditions.
If you have an excess to pay, BUPA will contact you when this is due and the excess fee will need to be paid directly to South West Podiatry. Please wait for an invoice from South West Podiatry as BUPA advise us after advising you.

Things not covered
Medical devices such as orthotics, braces splints and medications are not covered by BUPA.
BUPA will fund for an MSK Analysis appointment. Patients will need to gain pre authorisation for an AA641 and AA365 procedure codes for this appointment. There are no additional fees for this service.
BUPA will fund most of the Advanced MSK + 3D Gait Analysis appointment. This is a 2 hour biomechanical data collection appointment and patients will need to gain pre authorisation for an AA641 and AA365 procedure codes to proceed. Within this appointment we will take you through a 3D walking and/or running gait analysis data capture, visual gait analysis, pressure analysis, 3D foot scan (if orthoses are required) and collect data to inform your treatment plan. Within this appointment we also recommend an MSK lower limb strength and flexibility tests to inform the 3D gait analysis data. The MSK lower limb strength and flexibility tests are not covered by BUPA. This service and the compilation of reports costs £100 to proceed. Please inform your podiatrist if you do not wish to proceed with this service when scheduling an Advanced MSK + 3D Gait Analysis appointment.
SWIFT verruca treatment is covered by BUPA. Patients will need to ensure that two codes are authorised per appointment (AA641 and AA100 ) AA100 is SWIFT and AA641 is a follow-up appointment.
BUPA do not fund podiatrists to administer shockwave therapy. This is a self-pay service.
BUPA do not fund podiatrists to use diagnostic ultrasound. This is a self-pay service.
BUPA do not fund podiatrists to administer cortico-steroid injection therapy or OSTENIL. This is a self-pay service.
BUPA do not pay for routine foot care or conservative management of foot conditions. This is a self-pay service and can be booked separately with any podiatrist within our service

Initial consultation: AA145
Follow up consultation: AA641
Musculoskeletal (MSK) Analysis: AA641 + AA365
Advanced MSK Analysis + 3D Gait Analysis: AA641 + AA365. BUPA do not cover all of the services involved. Please see above.
Nail Surgery: AA628. When attending for nail surgery please ensure that you also request at least 2 x AA641 (Follow-up) appointments to be authorised.
