Once one of our Podiatrists have determined the structure in the heel (for example the plantar fascia) which is causing your heel pain they will then look to further analyse the potential causes of damage. This could be due to footwear or over training increasing mileage when running too early for example.
The analysis comes in the form of an advanced analysis, this is where the Podiatrist will assess your walking and or running gait and undertake infra red pressure analysis to look at the pressure distribution through the foot when walking or running.
The results of the advanced analysis will enable the Podiatrist reduce your heel pain as quickly as possible by prescribing an appropriate management plan which may involve the following therapies:
- Footwear / running trainer advice
- Strength and conditioning of the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the foot and ankle
- Orthotic therapy
- Shockwave therapy
- Injection therapy
In the next series of blogs we will look into some of the treatment options for heel pain.
