Diagnosing Heel Pain

How to diagnose heel pain

In order for our Podiatrists to assess heel pain we need to first take a detailed history of when and how the heel pain started, along with other questions about the character of pain and the severity of pain to help aid in diagnosing the possible causes of pain.

Diagnostic imaging such as MRI, X-Ray and diagnostic ultrasound will help the Podiatrist in diagnosing and differentiating the causes of your heel pain. At South West Podiatry we have on-site diagnostic ultrasounds to view internal structures of the foot and ankle such as bone, ligament, and tendon.

What is ultrasound used for in Podiatry?

Ultrasound is a safe way and effective way to assess injury to muscle or tendons within your foot and ankle.

How does it work?

We use a probe that emits sound waves into your body, similar to pregnancy ultrasound. Waves of ultrasound are then converted into an image to allow us to see superficial structures within the foot and ankle.
